Tikkun Olam

According to Jewish Mystical tradition it was God's plan to pour the energy used to create the world into vessels. These vessels, however, were overwhelmed by the strength of God's creative energy and they shattered.

It is now within human power to discover the fragments and energy of those broken vessels, and put them together to make whole and perfect what is now fractured and far from perfect.

Though we do not relate to this story literally, we as Reform Jews believe in the notion that humankind has the ability to distinguish between good and evil, and that we can repair the world, bringing good into the world in which we live. By exploring the factors of our Jewish existence, we can better understand what it is we are repairing. As we educate ourselves, and our community, our knowledge begins to repair the world.

Sick at Home? In the Hospital? Please Let Us Know
With the current privacy laws regarding hospitalizations, we are not always given the names of our members who are in the hospital. Please do not assume that we just know. Word doesn't always reach us. Call the Temple office if you or a family member is sick or in the hospital. This will enable us to reach out to you and offer our support.
Ink Cartridge Recycle
Temple Emanu-El has launched a fundraising project. Empyt inkjet cartridges can be recycled and remanufactured. We will receive up to $4.00 for each cartridge turned in. This will directly benefit the synagogue and it is great for the enviroment.

YOU CAN HELP! Any inkjet cartridge with a print head can be recycled, regardless of brand or type. Do you have an HP, Lexmark, Xerox, Compaq, Samsung, Kodak, Canon, or Apple Printer? Bring in your empty OEM inkjet cartridges (placed in the original box or a Ziploc bag) to the temple.
